$103.32

Description

This standard formula is listed in AWS welding code D1.2/D1.2M annex as the “Basic Etchant.” It is specifically recommended for macro-etching aluminum weldments. The term ‘Basic’ denotes its non-acidic nature. We tested this mixture on 3003, 5052, 5085, 5456, 6061, and 6063 aluminum welds; it demonstrated fast and effective results as suggested by AWS. Please review our test results here. Made with reagent-grade chemicals to ensure precision and reliability.

This formula is listed in ASTM Standard E407 as number 220; it is also an effective electrolytic etching solution for duplex stainless steels.

User Instructions:

Shelf life is one year.

For Aluminum Welds:

  • Sand the cross-section of the weld to a uniform 600-grit finish, at a minimum, before etching. Mirror polish the surface if possible. The finer the finish, the more details you will see.
  • Apply this chemical with cotton swabs. Allow it to stand for a few seconds to minutes.
  • Once the weld is visible, rinse it with water to stop the reaction.
  • Heating this solution to 120°F/50°C is optional but can enhance its effectiveness.

For Electrolytic Etching of Duplex Stainless Steel

  • Electrolytic etching equipment is required.
  • Typical Settings: Use a stainless steel cathode, 3 to 5 V DC for 5–10 s.

Packaging:

Nalgene® Leakproof Bottle, HDPE.
